SpongeBob SquarePants is the titular main protagonist of the franchise of the same name.

SpongeBob is a childish, joyful, hardworking, and sometimes clumsy and silly sea sponge who lives in a pineapple with his pet snail Gary the underwater city of Bikini Bottom. He works as a fry cook at the Krusty Krab, a job in which he is exceptionally skilled at and enjoys thoroughly. He attends Mrs. Puff's Boating School, and his greatest dream in life is to receive his boating license. Unfortunately, he tenses up whenever he has to drive a boatmobile, and he drives recklessly by speeding, crashing into buildings, etc. which causes him to fail every time. SpongeBob is very good-natured and loves to hang out with his best friend, Patrick. His teacher is Mrs. Puff and his boss is Mr. Krabs. He is the arch-enemy of Plankton.

He is voiced by Tom Kenny, who also voiced Heffer Wolfe from Rocko's Modern Life, Dog from CatDog, the Mayor of Townsville and the narrator from the Powerpuff Girls franchise, and Spyro the Dragon from the franchise of the same name.

Why Is He In Likability Scaling Purgatory?

He has too many comedic moments and Is also generally heroic, so he isn't a Hate Sink.
His detestable qualities are not consistent enough with his character to make him Entertainingly Detestable.
He's too stupid to be Magnificent Baddie and the few times he actually is bad, it is usually a result of his own stupidity.
He has many moments of unlikability, especially during seasons 6 through 9, so he can't be Love Exalted.

Trivia

He used to be on the Love Exalted Wiki until it was confirmed that season 6 made him too unlikable.
Had the series ended after the first movie as Stephen Hillenberg had intended or his flanderization in Season 6 never happened, SpongeBob would be Love Exalted due to lacking any detestable traits.
